It’s actually easier to elope in Scotland than you might think. All you require to legally marry in Scotland is the couple, a marriage schedule, a celebrant and two witnesses over the age of 16. When I visited Scotland I witnessed several gorgeous weddings taking place, as well as the beautiful culture surrounding every aspect of the trip. We walked along the streets of Edinburg and found so many hidden gems, listened to talented pipers playing the bagpipes and even discovered hidden bars! The countryside was incredibly peaceful and I felt like my soul sighed in relief at the sheer beauty surrounding me.

Many couples elope and incorporate the customs of the Scotts such as, incorporating the classic attire of the kilts by the men, the hand-fasting ceremony and having a dram. The day of your dreams may include a walk through a beautiful city, a picnic, a lakeside or ocean side adventure – whatever you’re dreaming up we’ll bring it to life and I will be there to document each moment with you.

Having a dram of whisky is a tradition that is often observed during both traditional and modern Scottish weddings is blessing the marriage with a dram of whisky, drunk from a ceremonial Quaich. A Quaich is a two-handled silver or pewter dish, often give to the couple as a wedding present and engraved with the date of the wedding. If you have a family crest or coat of arms, it can be included on it. The Quaich is filled with whisky during the ceremony, and then once the bride and groom are ‘legally’ married they seal the wedding with a drink, and of course what is a more traditional Scottish drink than Whisky!

Of course, you can elope without the traditions if they don’t fit your wedding dreams. It’s your day so make sure it’s everything you’ve dreamed about!
